B. BACKGROUND/INTRODUCTION

Mahottari Dalit Janjati Utthan Sangh (MDJUS) is a non-political, non- profit oriented organization. MDJUS has been registered at District Administration Officer (DAO), Mahottari in 2059 (B.S.) and affiliated with Social Welfare Council, Kathmandu. It is located at Jaleshwor, Mohattori, in the Central Development region of Nepal.

The background history of the formation of MDJUS was mainly a must disturbing event which occurred in Pipara VDC in 2059 (B.S.). It was related to human rights violence by Upper Caste Groups against untouchable people. Social workers and university students of that area badly hurt with the incident and discussed about all forms of cast/class based violence, and social/economic discriminations prevailing in the society leading to conflict. They reached in a conclusion that the underlying causes for such violence and social evils are not only economic but also social, cultural and political structural causes. The structural causes have perpetuated poverty, social evils and discrimination and there is serious need of resolving the problem in more democratic an institutionalized manner. As a result of this discussion, a group of social workers, intellectual persons, university students agreed to initiate joint effort to fight against the structural causes of poverty and conflict and formed the organization.

D. MISSION

• Organize and capacitate Dalits, Janjati, Women, Youth, Children and Marginal Farmers against Untouchability, Child labor, natural resource sector, Child Marriage, Human trafficking, Caste/class violence, Gender violence and all forms of social discrimination and violence.

• Strengthening the Dalit and disadvantage community to have equal share in the resources and dignified participation in the decision-making bodies.

• Fostering democratic methods to strengthen the democratic fabric the society and to bring, good governance, peace and progress.

• Empowering men and women for their equal development.

E. OBJECTIVEs

• Support for economic, social, educational, political development of Dalit, Janjati and backward community

• Advocate, lobby, organize and capacitate Dalits, Janjati, Women, Youth, Children and Marginal Farmers against Untouchability, Child labor, Child Marriage, Human trafficking, Caste/class violence, Gender violence, dowry system, curtain system and all forms of social discrimination and violence.

• Strengthening the Dalit and disadvantage community to have equal share in the resources and dignified participation in the decision-making bodies.

• Aware community to use safe and clean drinking water and promote sanitation and use of toilet.

• Support women and dalit janjati community to become self-sustain by providing skill oriented trainings and livestock rearing.

 

F. TARGET GROUPS

Primary Target groups of MDJUS are Women, Dalits, Janjati, Youth and Children and other Socially Excluded Groups of Nepalese Societies. Secondary target groups are policy makers and implementers who are responsible to protect, fulfill and promote the human rights of Women, Youths, Dalit, Janjati and Children and other Excluded Groups of Nepalese Societies.

G. SOURCE OF FUNDING

As MDJUS is a non-profit organization, a larger number of funding comes from donors, Embassies and International NGOs. Besides, MDJUS has mobilized its internal resource to generate its own fund. Membership contribution, rent from meeting and hall, overhead from mobilizing cooperatives organizations are other sources internal of funding.
